Contribute: Get Into Your Comfort Zone

This blog started as an opportunity to share my ideas to make the world a better place.  But it’s so much more than that.  I want to build a community where everyone feels welcome, a place where you can be inspired and YOU can inspire others.  But even more importantly, I want to build a place where you can be yourself and feel at home.

The term “comfort zone” is used quite often, both in our personal and professional lives.  Most people espouse that you should get out of your comfort zone.  In other words, try something new, be bold, break out of the mold and the place where we think we should be.  Those are all good things to do from time to time. But, perhaps thinking about your comfort zone as where you are most authentic, where you are the most “you” is good to think about too.

We all have preconceived notions of who we should be – how we should act, what we should be doing with our lives.  It all goes back to the image we project to the rest of the world.  And oftentimes we consider how others view us or think about us before we speak or act.  We might put on a façade and keep our real feelings to ourselves.  Are we afraid how others will react to the real us?  Do we worry that non-conforming ideas will be ridiculed?  The beauty of this world is in the diversity, though, that we all bring to the table.  I believe we were all made perfectly, with gifts and talents, strengths and weaknesses, to serve our purpose in life.

There were times in my life that I felt like a phony.  Working in a corporation with mostly men, I felt I had to be assertive, bold (and sometimes just plain old loud) to be taken seriously.  But that’s not me.  I realized over time that I needed to be me.  And if someone didn’t like it, or I didn’t end up on the career trajectory that I previously envisioned, that is okay.  What feels right is being authentic and leading with my heart and my soul.

I invite you to find your real comfort zone.  It is truly liberating.  And I would love for you to contribute to this community – write a blog or article that tells your story or relates something that is important to you.  Make your authentic voice heard.  I can help you along the way (brainstorming, editing, whatever it takes).

Looking forward to hearing your stories.  Be bold, be brave and find your true comfort zone today.
